We have a bus stop around 150 meters away, the train station is a 10 minute taxi ride away, we can make your return booking to the train station for you.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • We have no designated parking for Conway Cottage but there is free parking available on the street directly next to Conway Cottage.

Main Entrance & Reception

  • Conway cottage has three steps the main entrance, the hallway is narrow with a minimum width of 68cm in places with little room for a wheel chair. The front door is always locked.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

  • Conway Cottage is located on the first floor up a staircase, once inside all rooms are on a level surface apart from one small step down into the kitchen the apartment is reached via stairs, the steps are 18cm high, 26cm deep and 78cm wide.


We do not have any bedrooms suitable for wheelchair access, all TV's have teletext

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC

  • Conway Cottage has an en-suite with shower, the shower hase a minimum step into of 15cm. Doors to bedrooms are 75cm wide, 66cm into bathrooms.

Additional Information

  • Mobile phone reception is generally good

  • We are able to use the front door in the need of evacuation, the alarm bell rings continuously if evacuation is needed. If you require more assistance for evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely e.g. hearing impairment.

Future Plans

Due to the nature of the Conway Cottage, any alteration to enable wheelchair access is impossible without a major reconstruction of the whole building, all the charm and character of the building would be lost.

  • The cost of the alterations would be totally uneconomic for our business.

Conway Cottage is a restored Victorian Villa in the Centre of York, the house was converted into a holiday apartment in 2012. All original features of the House have been kept. We have recently updated our bathrooms using showers with a low step, our bathrooms have any additional features especially for the disabled due to the size/layout of the bathrooms.
